Boat Accidents
Boat Accident Prevention
Southern California‘s mild climate and seemingly limitless options for water-based recreation make it an ideal location for boating adventures. However, California had the second highest number of boating accidents in the United States in 2012, with 365 reported accidents. Of those accidents, 158 occurred while cruising and 100 happened while the boats were tied to a dock or mooring.
In addition to handling all of your auto body repair needs, Precision Collision also has skilled mechanics available to restore your boat after an accident. Should an accident occur, we can restore your boat to its original glory.
Below are some measures you can take to help prevent causing an accident on the water.
Wear a Life Jacket
From 2008 to 2012, 253 fatalities occurred in California boating accidents. Of those, 169 victims were not wearing life jackets at the time of their deaths.
Taking the simple step of strapping on a life vest before striking out on the water could very well save your life. But make sure to purchase life vests that fit properly and will also keep you upright even if you become unconscious.
Have a Designated Driver
Operating a boat is similar to driving a car in that you should not be intoxicated when behind the wheel. Alcohol is involved in approximately one-third of all boating accidents. Before kicking back on the deck with a cold beverage, establish a designated driver.
Take a Course
Operating errors cause more than seven out of ten boating accidents. Keep your friends and family out of harm's way on the water by learning how to safely operate and navigate your recreational boat.
